City and the Sea Undergraduate Fellowship
Program Overview
The City and the Sea Fellowship, funded in part by The Teagle Foundation, prepares undergraduate students to become civic leaders in New York City, pairing transformative classroom learning with paid experiential opportunities in public service. Anchored at 17勛圖厙s New York City Campus, The City and the Sea Fellowship is designed to help students develop a sense of place in the Lower Manhattan context of 17勛圖厙s campus, especially as it relates to the water and the waterfront environment. The Fellowship provides up to $10,000 in support to students paid over the course of the academic year and the summer months of the internship.
Program Requirements
- Qualifying students must be rising sophomores or rising juniors in AY 26-27 and in good academic standing.
- Qualifying student must have an interest in civic leadership and public service.
- Qualifying student must commit to the year-long coursework and summer internship in New York City.
- Federal Work Study students are strongly encouraged to apply, though any motivated rising sophomore or junior may apply.
Course of Study
The program includes a two-semester academic sequence covering the topics of city politics and policy, and civic leadership and engagement in the context of New York Citys land, coastal and oceanfront governance.
- 2026 Fall Semester - Fellows must enroll in PAA 101: Public Administration and Its Environment: New York City. (CRN# TBD)
- 2027 Spring Semester - Fellows must enroll in POL 297P: Ocean Politics: Learning from our Watery City. (CRN# TBD)
- 2027 Summer - Fellows are placed at New York City based nonpro麍ts, social enterprises and government agencies that are making an impact along our waterways and coastal environments.
- Fall 2027 - Fellows present their internship outcomes at an on-campus internship showcase.
